Information collected
Information you submit
There is no form on this website, so it does not directly collect names, email addresses, messages or other information from visitors.
Technical records
The site is hosted using GitHub Pages. As with most web hosting, GitHub may process technical information such as IP addresses and browser details for delivery, security and operational purposes. GitHub describes its handling of this information in the GitHub General Privacy Statement.
Cookies and analytics
Limited Google Analytics is on when you first visit so that normal visits are represented in the site's aggregate statistics. It records standard page views, including the page address and title, so that I can understand which pages are visited. Query strings are not sent as page locations. Enhanced measurement, granular location and device collection, Google Signals, advertising and profiling are disabled.
The notice shown on the site gives you an easy, free way to turn analytics off. Doing so removes the Google Analytics cookies that this site can access, records your choice in essential storage and prevents Analytics from loading on later pages. You can use the whole website either way and change your choice through Analytics settings in the footer.
am_analytics_choice- A first-party preference cookie that remembers whether you kept analytics on or turned it off. It lasts for 90 days.
_ga- A limited Google Analytics cookie used to distinguish visits. It lasts for no more than 90 days.
_ga_DEJ9C50DTY- A limited Google Analytics cookie used to maintain session information. It lasts for no more than 90 days.
Basis, retention and choices
Google Analytics is used solely to produce aggregate statistics that help me understand and improve this website. This use relies on the statistical-purposes exception in the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations and the legitimate interest in understanding and improving the service. You can object free of charge and turn analytics off at any time through Analytics settings in the footer. Turning it off stops future analytics loading and removes the _ga cookies that this site can access. The preference remains for 90 days so that the site remembers your choice.
Google Analytics event and user data are retained for two months, and that period is not extended when someone returns. Google Signals and advertising-personalisation features are disabled. Google may process analytics data outside the United Kingdom and describes the safeguards it uses in Safeguarding your data and its Privacy Policy.
