Privacy on this website

This is a static website with no forms, accounts, comments or newsletters. Google Analytics is off unless you allow it.

Who is responsible

I, Alasdair MacLullich, operate this independent professional website and am responsible for its optional use of Google Analytics. For questions about this notice, please email a.maclullich@ed.ac.uk or use my University of Edinburgh profile.

This notice covers alasdairmaclullich.com. The organisations and services linked from this website have their own privacy notices.

Information collected

Information you submit

There is no form on this website, so it does not directly collect names, email addresses, messages or other information from visitors.

Technical records

The site is hosted using GitHub Pages. As with most web hosting, GitHub may process technical information such as IP addresses and browser details for delivery, security and operational purposes. GitHub describes its handling of this information in the GitHub General Privacy Statement.

Cookies and analytics

Google Analytics loads only after you choose Allow analytics. It records standard page views, including the page address and title, so that I can understand which pages are visited. Query strings are not sent as page locations. Enhanced measurement, granular location and device collection, Google Signals, advertising and profiling are disabled.

The notice shown on your first visit lets you allow analytics or keep it off. Your choice is recorded in essential storage. You can use the whole website either way and change your choice through Analytics settings in the footer.

am_analytics_choice
A first-party preference cookie that remembers whether you allowed analytics or kept it off. It lasts for 90 days.
_ga
A limited Google Analytics cookie used to distinguish visits. It lasts for no more than 90 days.
_ga_DEJ9C50DTY
A limited Google Analytics cookie used to maintain session information. It lasts for no more than 90 days.

Basis, retention and choices

If you allow Google Analytics, consent is the basis for its use. You can withdraw consent at any time through Analytics settings in the footer. Turning analytics off stops future loading and removes the _ga cookies that this site can access. The preference remains for 90 days so that the site remembers your choice.

Google Analytics retains event and user data for 14 months. Returning to the site does not extend this period. Google Signals and advertising-personalisation features are disabled. Google may process analytics data outside the United Kingdom and describes the safeguards it uses in Safeguarding your data and its Privacy Policy.

Your rights

You may ask about personal data connected with this website, object to its use, withdraw consent, or ask for correction or deletion where those rights apply. Please email a.maclullich@ed.ac.uk or use my University of Edinburgh profile. You can also raise a concern with the Information Commissioner's Office.

This website links to external sites, including university, research, professional and public resource websites. Those services have their own privacy practices. Following a link takes you to a separate website whose operator is responsible for it.
